Habitography Privacy Policy

Habitography ("the app") is made by SOTA Science Inc. ("Sotasci", "we"). This policy explains what data the app uses and where it goes, in plain language. Questions? Email privacy@sotasci.com.
The short version
- Your habits, character, and journal live on your device.
- By default, the AI companion runs on your device and nothing is sent to us.
- Data leaves your device only if you choose a cloud or social feature, described below.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or use third-party analytics or ad trackers.
Data stored on your device
Your character, stats, tasks, streaks, reminders, journal entries, settings, and any downloaded AI model files are stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app removes this data. We don't have a copy of it.
On-device AI
The app can download a small AI model and run it entirely on your phone. In this mode, what you write and the photos you use never leave your device. The model file itself is downloaded from a public host when you choose to install it, which means that host can see a standard download request from your device (such as your IP address).
Cloud AI (optional)
You can choose one of two cloud options. Both are off by default.
- Habitography Cloud plan. If you subscribe, the text needed to generate a response (for example your message and relevant habit context) is sent to our server, which forwards it to an AI model provider to produce the reply. Our server also keeps a usage count tied to a random device identifier so we can enforce your plan's allowance. We do not use this content to train models, and we do not keep the content of your messages beyond what is needed to answer them.
- Your own API key. If you enter your own key from a third-party AI provider, requests go directly from your device to that provider under its own terms and privacy policy. The key is stored on your device only.
Photos and proof of completion
You can attach a photo as proof that you completed a task. The photo is picked or taken with your permission. With on-device AI, it is analyzed on your device. If you have turned on a cloud AI option, the photo may be sent to that option's provider to check it. We don't keep photos on our servers.
Social features (optional)
Friends, parties, group goals, and sharing are optional. If you use them, the information needed for those features, such as your display name, party membership, messages you send, and shared progress, is sent to and stored on our servers so other members can see it. You can leave a party or stop sharing at any time.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Google Play. We don't receive your payment card details. We receive confirmation from Google Play that a subscription is active. See Google's privacy policy.
Permissions the app asks for
- Internet: for model downloads, cloud AI, social features, and purchases.
- Notifications: to send the habit reminders you set up.
- Vibration and run-on-boot: so reminders feel right and survive a restart.
- Camera / photos: only when you choose to add a photo.
Your choices
- Delete all local data by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it.
- To delete data we hold about you (cloud usage records or social data), email privacy@sotasci.com and we'll remove it.
- You can turn off notifications, camera access, and cloud features at any time.
Children
Habitography is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security and retention
Connections to our servers are encrypted. We keep server-side data only as long as needed to run the feature you use, or until you ask us to delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above and, for meaningful changes, note it in the app.
